Big News: Eureka Gets $30.1 Million for Affordable Homes and Cool Community Stuff!

Hey everyone! On August 30, 2023, some important people in California gave the City of Eureka and a company called Linc Housing a whopping $30.1 million. Why? To build 90 new homes that people can actually afford! These homes will be in three different areas: 8th and G Streets, 6th and M Streets, and Myrtle and Sunny Avenues. They're calling it the "Eureka Scattered Site Project."

Eureka and Linc Housing have been planning this since 2020. They want to use empty parking lots owned by the city to build these homes. This is all part of a bigger plan to make sure everyone in Eureka has a place to live.

What's in it for You?

This money isn't just for building homes. It's also for making those homes awesome! Each housing area will have places to park your bike, offices to get help, community rooms to hang out in, laundry rooms, and even playgrounds. Plus, if you live there, you'll get free bus passes for 3 years and free internet for 5 years!

But Wait, There's More!

The city is also getting over $9 million to make public transportation better and safer for both bikers and walkers. They're also setting aside about $750,000 for some really cool programs. These include job training, making our streets safer, and helping people who are homeless or close to it.

You Helped Make This Happen!

A big shoutout to everyone in the community! Your opinions and support helped get this money. You went to meetings, filled out surveys, and wrote letters. You rock!

The Bigger Picture

This money comes from a special fund in California that's all about reducing pollution and making communities better. This is actually the second time Linc Housing tried to get this money. They just missed out last time, but now we've got it!

Where's the Money Going Exactly?

Building the 90 homes: $20,154,639

Making it safer and easier to walk and bike: $2,974,042

Improving public transportation: $4,705,410

Fixing up bus stops and intersections: $1,575,750

Funding cool programs: $756,600

So, that's the big news! This is a huge win for Eureka and everyone who lives here. Get ready for some awesome changes! 🎉
