Animal Control

The Eureka Police Department's Animal Control is tasked with the enforcement and education related to domestic animals within the City of Eureka. Our animal control officers take pride in the work that they do, and are proud to serve the citizens of Eureka and their pet families.

Licensing

All dogs within the City of Eureka are required to be licensed per Eureka Municipal Code (EMC 91.404(B)). Dog licensing is done through the Finance department, and more information can be found at: Dog License | Eureka, CA (eurekaca.gov)

Leash Laws

Within the City of Eureka all dogs are required to be under physical control or leash control per EMC 91.205. Failure to have your animal under physical or leash control can result in a citation due to violation of Eureka Municipal Code.

Lost & Found Animals

When pets are found within Eureka City limits, they are typically transported to the Eureka Police department headquarters for a temporary hold (less than 24 hours) and then transported to the Humboldt County Animal Shelter.

If you have lost your pet you can check the Humboldt County Animal Shelter's website for photos of found pets.

In addition, many citizens post lost and found pets on Facebook via the Paws Cause site, so we recommend looking there as well.  Our Animal Control office often posts found pets through this site as well.
