Business Office

The business office is staffed by the members of the Records Section and offers a variety of services outside of police records responsibilities to assist citizens of Eureka.

Bicycle Registration

Bicycles can be registered with the Eureka Police Department during regular business hours or by mail. Please provide your photo ID and proof of purchase, if available. For registration packets by mail, contact the Business Office at 707-441-4060. Bicycles without serial numbers will not be registered.

Live Scan / Fingerprints

Fingerprinting services are provided by the Eureka Police Department by appointment on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 9 am to 12 noon and 1 pm to 3 pm, except on legal holidays.

You are required to bring one of the following forms of primary identification:

  • California Driver's License
  • DMV Identification Card
  • Out-of-State Driver's License

Secondary forms of identification must be supported with at least two supplemental documents. Examples of secondary identification include U.S. Passport, Social Security Card, State issued Birth Certificate, and Military ID card. Examples of supplemental documents include utility bills, vehicle registration, pay stubs, canceled check, and bank statements.

The Eureka Police Department charges a $35 rolling fee plus the price for Live Scan which depends upon where the fingerprints are being sent. Checks or money orders should be made out to the "City of Eureka."

Parking Citation Contest / Payments

The Business Office accepts payments for parking citations issued by Eureka Police Department. Payment can be made by cash, check, money order, or credit / debit cards (excluding American Express).

PC 290, Arson, Gang Offender Registration

Individuals required to register with local law enforcement pursuant to PC 290, or as arson or gang offenders can complete their registration event Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday by appointment from 9 am to 12 noon or 1 pm to 3 pm.

Effective January 1, 2020, individuals convicted of HS 11590 are no longer required to register as narcotic offenders.

Permits - Massage Practitioner, Taxi Cab Driver, Card Room Dealer

The City of Eureka issues employment permits for various professions outlined in the Eureka Municipal Code including massage practitioners, taxi cab drivers, card room dealers, and door-to-door sales (in conjunction with the Finance Office). Contact the Business Office for details.

RV Permits

A citizen of Eureka may request an RV permit by email, telephone, regular mail, or in person. Once the request is received, Records personnel will review the request and issue a permit if appropriate. It is expected permits will be issued at the time requested unless further research is needed or extenuating circumstances occur. If a permit request does not meet the criteria, staff should help assist the citizen by explaining what else is needed to obtain one.

Daily Use

An RV that is used on a daily basis and on-premise parking is not reasonably available. This type of permit shall not be valid longer than six months. A temporary permit may be issued while the request is being reviewed if needed.

24-Hour

RV parked for the purposes of loading/unloading or other short-term use. The permit is issued for 24 hours. A vehicle may have no more than 16 permits issued in a calendar month and for no more than eight consecutive days. No more than 144 days of permits in a 12-month period.

Medical

The requestor can present a written statement from a licensed medical doctor that justifies why the RV should be kept near a residence (i.e. caring for a family member recovering from surgery etc.). This type of permit can be issued for an indefinite time period. A form is available for completion by a physician. A temporary permit may be issued while the request is being reviewed if needed.

Construction

A construction permit may be issued for an RV parked while used in performing or assisting in performing services or repairs on a residential property. The permit will be valid for 45 days and will be renewed only upon proof the vehicle is continuing to be used in performing the services described. A temporary permit may be issued while the request is being reviewed if needed.

Ticket Sign Offs

Individuals cited for correctable vehicle violations can have their citation signed off by staff during regular business hours. Please note, if the violation is equipment or registration-related, the cited vehicle must be present as it will be inspected.
