Boards and Commissions

The City of Eureka has twelve active boards and commissions that serve as advisory bodies to Council. Board and Commission meetings can be viewed on the View Meetings page. Download the "Boards, Commissions & Committee Handbook" to learn more about City Boards & Commissions. 

Eligibility

In order to be eligible for appointment to any board or commission, a person must be a qualified registered elector of the City of Eureka, the Humboldt Community Services District, or be the owner of a business located within the city limits of the City of Eureka. Appointments of qualified non-city residents require a four-fifths vote of the Council for confirmation.

Compensation

Members on boards and commissions serve as a civic responsibility and without compensation. No member of any board or commission may hold any paid office or employment in the city government.

Participation

The public may participate in public meetings in the following manner:

  • View-only option available on the City's website (no participation)
  • Attend the meeting in person. City Hall is open for meetings.
  • View and participate via Zoom. See the public hearing notice and/or agenda to find the Zoom information for the meeting.
  • Participate in writing. See the public hearing notice and/or agenda to find deadlines for submitting written comments before the meeting. All written comments received prior to the meeting, or in person at the meeting will be part of the public record for consideration but may not be read aloud during the meeting. Submit written comments at the meeting, or before the meeting:

Accessibility Notice

The Council Chamber is open to the public, and is the location for each of the Board, Commission and Committee meetings.  The Chamber is located on the second floor of City Hall and is wheelchair accessible. Accommodations and access to City meetings for people with special needs must be requested of the City Clerk at 707-441-4175 in advance of the meeting.

Duties

  • Reviews public art projects
  • Appoints "Artist of the Month" 12 times each year
  • Drafts and implements the "Eureka Strategic Arts Plan"
  • Advises City Council regarding community aesthetics and art-related topics
