Making Everyday Life in Eureka Easier

Our Public Works Department works hard every day to maintain and improve the quality of life in Eureka. It’s an important job, and often happens behind the scenes, but we are honored to help make life feel normal for the residents, businesses, and guests of Eureka.

  • From clean water flowing when you turn on your faucet to an effective wastewater system that effectively takes care of what you flush, our Water and Sewer team makes sure Eureka is a livable city.
  • Our Engineering and Transportation Division prioritizes the safety of all our citizens by maintaining our streets, optimizing the flow of traffic, and increasing access to multimodal transportation with trails, bike lanes, and pedestrian-centered crosswalks.
  • Our Code Enforcement Division is in charge of enforcing the codes our city has established, protecting everyone’s right to safe and accessible infrastructure.

  1. The land that Eureka rests on is known in the Wiyot language as Jaroujiji. Past actions by local, State and Federal governments removed the Wiyot and other indigenous peoples from the land and threatened to destroy their cultural practices. The City of Eureka acknowledge the Wiyot community, their elders both past and present, as well as future generations. This acknowledgement demonstrates the City’s commitment to dismantle the ongoing legacies of settler colonialism.
